COVID EFFECT

> Lack of access to energy may hamper efforts to contain COVID-19 across many parts of the world. Energy services are key to preventing disease and fighting pandemics - from powering healthcare facilities and supplying clean water for essential hygiene, to  and enabling communications IT services that connect people while maintaining social distancing.

· As countries rebuild from the COVID-19 pandemic, Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) has produced a new series of regional guides to show how countries can 'Recover Better' and use this once in a generation opportunity to prioritize clean energy investments in their recovery plans and stimulus packages - helping reset their economies and close energy access gaps.

The Recover Better with Sustainable Energy series sets out key policies and enabling measures that countries should take as part of an ambitious 'recover better' strategy that will deliver resilient economic growth, new jobs, and sustainable energy for all over the long-term.

The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Sustainable Energy for All  outlined three ways to respond to the COVID-19 emergency:

  1. Prioritize energy solutions to power health clinics and first responders;
  2. Keep vulnerable consumers connected;
  3. Increase reliable, uninterrupted, and sufficient energy production in preparation for a more sustainable economic recovery.
